We’ve had constant rain for the past two days.
A lot of rain.
Along with flooded roads, closed highways,
puddles that have become ponds, wind advisories, dust storms.
Every county in the state is
under some sort of storm warning or advisory.
As much as the rain and snow
disrupt our daily goings on
and are hazards in some areas,
they are welcome in this dry state.
As I drove home today into a dust storm
I started to think about
life here not so long ago.
One hundred years ago.
Even less.
Homesteads with dirt floors;
adobe buildings;
wooden walls and roofs that would leak;
trails not roads;
word-of-mouth rather than doppler radar.
I’m so glad it’s 2010 and not 1910.

Hasn't it been crazy? Now there's a tornado warning! Wow! Hope you're having a good week!

Oh, yes. Despite the inconvenience and concern,it is nothing like it would have been 100 years ago. Sometimes we really need to stop and take stock and realize all the wonderful comforts we have and take for granted. Thank you for reminding us to be thankful for little things, such as paved road! radio communication! weather reports! Not to mention a warm house and instant dinner. There is so much to really be thankful for every day! Love the picture of the "mirror image" sky. Love your observations.

Isn't it true? There are so many days when I am grateful to be living today and not 100 years ago.
Lovely photo, Lizzi.

When you think of how many people die in severe weather now, with all of our advantages, it's easy to understand why so many people died from natural disasters years ago.

Beautiful photo Lizzi! I love this post… it really is true. Our lives are so much easier today with all of our conveniances we have now. It was a hard life 100 years ago. We need to remember that.

Beautiful photo. This post makes me wonder what people will be saying about this time a 100 years from now?
Brenda says
beautiful photo.
hope we are here in a 100 years from now.
not us, but humanity.
sometimes i wonder if all that we have has not made us take too much for granted. both extremes are not good, and as they say in Lost Horizon, moderation, moderation, moderation.
What I am most thankful for is that we don't have to wear those awful petticoats and dresses and we can go to the hairdresser and get our locks cut off because I can't imagine carrying all that extra girlie stuff around.
have a marvelous week!

Love this photo! I love capturing reflections in water, it so pretty. That blue sky is beautiful. I think about the 100 years or so thing often and what it was like here for the early settlers, them treking up the mountains trying to find these beautiful valley we live in. I am grateful to be here now. I hope you're weather has settled down.

Great photo!!
I really dislike rain…but we don't need it as much as you do. And now we're getting snow, which I don't like much either!!
