♥ So I saw The Hunger Games and I actually liked it.  {Although I’m guessing I didn’t like it as much as the girl with the 5′ tall bow and arrow did.} Quite a surprise if you know what sort of fiction I like.

♥ Today’s lesson: Proper brain function is difficult to achieve on just Diet Coke and M&Ms.

♥ Beau: “Let’s look at bugs.” {With his new magnifying glass from Grandma Cindy.}

Me: “Eew…” {Really, I’m not bug squeamish…}

Beau: “Mom, we’re not eating them for dinner.  We’re just going to look at them.”

Me: “Thanks for clearing that up Beau.”

♥ Eerie is when a book synopsis sounds very familiar to your own family.

♥ Amusing is roaming “Men’s Apparel” on Pinterest.

♥ I just learned they are remaking The Great Gatsby {thank you Pinterest.}  I am very excited.  The casting is right on.

♥ I don’t consider myself a math person at all, but I do work with numbers all day long.  {I frequently dream about numbers too.} There is a method to number madness, and it surprises {and frustrates} me when other number people don’t see it.

♥ Funny how a scent instantly brings back random memories.  Tonight while getting Beau out of the bath, the scent of bathwater brought me back to weekends at my grandparent’s lake house and getting cleaned up after an afternoon playing on the beach.

♥ Happy almost Friday to you!

♥ Beau: “I like fruit.”

Me: “What fruit do you like?”

Beau: “Different kinds.”

Me: “What different kinds?”

Beau: “Don’t worry about it.”

Me: “Um, okay…”

Just another typical conversation.

And no, I’m not worrying about it.

♥ So I’m going to an early screening of Hunger Games tomorrow night.  Haven’t read the book.  Have only seen a 45 second trailer.  Not sure what I’m in for.

♥ I wish the women before me jotted their little everyday quips, musings, and observations down.

Each day when I look at him, I think what great leaps he takes day in and day out.

Nothing special, mind you.

Just the normal great leaps of childhood.

How one day he is clingy and shy and won’t say much.

And the next he is asking questions and carrying on abstract (for a 4-year-old) conversations.

And exploring on his own.  (The “on his own” part I can pretty much live without.)

This is my view 40+ hours a week.

Blue skies and clouds and steel.

I long to be outside enjoying this turn to spring.

Instead I am inside with my computer, more papers than I know what to do with, and my trusty 10-key.

I race through numbers to enjoy the sunshine, only sometimes successful.

Cabin fever can be a cruel, cruel thing.

Ever since I was little this has been my favorite part of the day.

Time slows its pace, a peace settles, and all feels right.

Listens to you when you are ranting and raving until you are calm and rational.

Is silly and deep, all in the same night.

Lets you eat the rest of the blueberry cobbler because it’s just one of those days.

I’ve been virtually absent lately.

For the last couple weeks if I don’t work with you or live with you I haven’t seen you.

Or talked to you.

Or emailed you.

Or any sort of communicating with you.

I feel like I’ve been living and breathing work.

I know three things for sure:

1.  It is a challenge.

2.  Only the biggest cup of caffeine is getting me through 10+ hour work days.

3.  The cashiers at QT should be on a first name basis with me.

She will swoop in with deep throaty laughter and high heels and bangles.

She will demand only your best.  And you will not dare give her anything less.

She will push you and you will push yourself.

She will introduce you to a new world. A world that you had only imagined before.

She will teach you that all you have to do is step beyond the shadows.

And just when you think you cannot do what is put in front of you,

that you simply don’t have it in you,

you think of her and her laughter and high heels and bangles.

No retouches.  I’m tired from a 50-minute commute home and a trip to the gas station; my glasses have left pink spots on the sides of my noses; the wrinkles under my eyes are clearly visible; the blemish that literally popped up overnight on my cheek is in plain site; whatever makeup I started the day with is long gone.}
