Cotton, Christmas, & Apostrophes {My Weekly Ramblings}

November 15, 2011

“Sometimes you have to stand on your own for a while, just to fulfill your potential.”  Never underestimate the wisdom you can glean from an Australian TV show about 3 teen mermaids with superpowers…

I really love Christmas lights, but I think November 14 is a tad early for them.  I also think it’s a little early for Christmas lights and pine garlands adorning banisters.  Apparently our neighbors don’t think so.  Although I  have to admit I listened to Christmas music on the way in to work today.  I never said I didn’t have double standards.

Speaking of Christmas, I’m starting my Christmas playlist.  What’s your favorite carol?  I’m loving “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” by The Barenaked Ladies.

The cotton is coming up here.  The fields look like they are covered in dustings of snow. We saw the cotton balers gearing up tonight, so it’s the beginning of the end this season.

We’re breaking tradition this year and grilling rib eyes for Thanksgiving.  I like to think that if they had the option, the Pilgrims would have had steaks for their celebratory meal.

Today’s question brought to you by Beau:  “How do we wake up?”  My brilliant response:  “Our bodies tell us too…I guess.”  He was somewhat satisfied.

For the life of my I don’t understand how it’s so hard to use the apostrophe correctly. (Apparently my circles are confusing – neither butts nor turkeys should have apostrophes. And yes I’m a nerd.)

So we got someone else’s Fingerhut catalog in the mail today, and I’ve been browsing through it. Until tonight Shane and I had no idea what Fingerhut was.  Reading it reminds me of pouring over the massive Sear’s catalog when I was little, circling all the things on my list.

Happy rest of the week to you my friends!

    We saw a house in our neighborhood 100% decked out for christmas on november 1st. Lights on and everything! I understand when people put the lights up on a warm Saturday afternoon sometime before Thanksgiving because it is terrible to do it in the cold, but you aren’t supposed to turn them on yet!

    I love that carol by BNL. It’s one of my favorites too.

    First of all, your blog looks beautiful. I just love it…. so clean and fresh 🙂 Did you do all of this Lizzi…. to your blog?? You are amazing!!

    I hate the apostrophe thing too. I’m right there with you! That’s a great question that Beau asked… I really like that one! I’d rather have rib eyes for Thanksgiving too actually. I’m not a fan of turkey.

      Thanks Holli! I was in the mood for a change so I had some quality laptop time redesigning it.

      Sometimes I think my mission in life is to spread the word about the proper use of the apostrophe! Are you cooking this year?

    Your blog looks clean and bright, just like cotton! I’ve never seen cotton growing in person. That means I’ve never been in a part of the country where cotton actually grows. Hmmmm….

    Don’t kids ask the greatest questions? They say things out loud that the rest of us either think but don’t say or SHOULD be thinking.
