“She reads a lot of books. Good things, books.”
– Thorne Smith
I admit it. I am a bookworm.
I border on being a bookhoarder.
I prefer book collector. It sounds nicer.
I recently started passing my books on to people who I think would enjoy them.
It took a long time for me to get to that point but it feels good.
You would think with my hundreds of books that
I would enjoy reading them more than once. But I don’t.
There are precious few that I will pick up time and time again.
These books are among the precious few.
Some I read as a teen, and they have stayed with me for no reason
other than they made me want to devour more books.
Others I read in college and they made me want to be a better person.
And others remind me that I own my own destiny.
What do you collect? What are the things that make you you?

I don’t keep very many of my books because I know I will probably never re-read them. There are just too many other ones I want to read. But when I find a book that really speaks to me, those I keep. So what I have is a collection of books I love–and mountains of books I’m working my way through trying to find more books that I love. Also, I collect frogs (my mom told my dad I felt like a tadpole when I was in utero) and witches (it’s a family joke that I’m the Wicked Witch of the West–my sister being the Wicked Witch of the East; we live on opposite sides of town!).

I’ve recently begun really culling the books I have here at home and donated 8 bags to the library & senior apartment complex in town. All in all, nearly or roughly 100 books have left the house since september (including coffee table books which I did hoard, er, collect) and it feels wonderful! More will leave the house before winter settles in but my favorites (ones I reread and ones I don’t) will stay with me. Hm, what else do I hoard, er, collect…? Halloween & Fall decorations and books, yarn for my knitting (though I’ve been good lately, no more new skeins in a long time), mugs (oh how I love mugs! I recently purged those too, I’m very proud of myself), Christmas decorations & books… too much, lol!

Lou saves books. It drives me nuts because we have nowhere to put them. These days, since he has the iPad, he doesn’t purchase books anymore, but he still has all the books he bought before 2010 and he won’t get rid of them. He won’t get rid of anything else either.I collect stuff for crafts that I can use. I don’t collect anything that I can’t use again. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to have anything they can’t use again — for me its just junk. But I have plenty of friends who do

What is your favorite book? I would love to hear why?
I also really liked The Great Gatsby.
But my all time favorite is The Joy Luck Club. My mom, and her mother read it altogether. To be honest, I do not keep any of my books. I like to give pass it on to others.
