1996: Ponte Vecchio
Sun shining
Air heavy with summer
Curls sticking to your neck
Gold lining the bridge
Glinting
You take it in
You absorb the headiness
You lose yourself in the crowd
In the locals
You look
Are looked at
Who are you?
You can be anyone
Reinvent yourself
Play the role you want
The role you imagine
Become one here
Find yourself
The breeze through the alley
On the corner
You cross
You look
Are looked at
You will never feel
More alive
—EKS, 1996
**While going through a box of old papers I found this poem I wrote the summer I was in France and Italy on an exchange program. I felt incredibly alive the summers I was abroad.**
Jo says
This is fabulous! What an incredible experience France and Italy must have been.
M.J. says
Nice poem! I never felt more alive than when I was tromping around Central and South America, before I got my “real job.” I feel ya!
Haley says
Isn’t it great when you come upon something that you wrote at a different time in your life…it’s like reliving that time all over again. Thanks for sharing this with us!
