This is Rowdy.
If you’ve been here for awhile you’ve met him before.
He’s our old man dog.
He got his name for a reason.
But his legs don’t let him run anymore.
Getting up is a chore and more often than not he needs a helping hand.
He can only hear you if you call him from the right angle.
His eyesight is questionable.
His body just can’t take much anymore.
He has been our constant for years and years.
Invincible. Steady. Strong. Our teddy bear.
But nothing lasts forever and the end is near
And so I just gaze at him and try to soak him up.

I’m linking up with Patty over at Finding Serendipity. She hosts the weekly Photo A La {M}ode photo challenge. It’s all about rocking your camera in manual mode. This was one of the first photos I took with my new camera, a Canon 60D. I was more concerned with getting any good photograph of Rowdy that I didn’t experiment with many settings. My goals were to focus on his eye and to let enough light in at a fast enough shutter speed to keep the details of his fur.
I have to say that this photo sold me on my camera with its articulated screen. For this shot I was backed up against our couch, which is backed up against the wall. I had no room for movement, and I was afraid Rowdy would move and I would lose the scene entirely. I couldn’t even get my head fully behind my viewfinder, but had to tilt my screen up and look down at it to see what I was photographing. Using the articulated screen worked like a charm and I was so happy I had decided on the 60D.

He looks like a faithful old soldier. Our cats are 11 1/2 years old, and like you, we treasure every day with them.
You described him perfectly Cate…he’s our faithful old soldier.
Look at that sweet face. I love him. We lost our 17 1/2 year old dog Logan a year and a half ago. I sometimes wish with all of my might that I could pet her one more time. Cherish this time with Rowdy. Now I’m in tears. ♥
